Minor Hockey Hierachy

Where We Fit in the Hockey World

Minor hockey, like any other organization has a hierarchy.  This is intended to show you where our association fits in the pyramid up through the levels to Hockey Canada.

Hockey Canada

Formerly called the Canadian Hockey Association (CHA), Hockey Canada is the governing body for amateur hockey in Canada. Hockey Canada makes the major decisions such as player divisions (or age groupings), and general rules & procedures. Hockey Canada is divided into 13 branches.  The branch we are part of is the Ottawa District Hockey Association (ODHA). Find out more about Hockey Canada through their website:  www.hockeycanada.ca.

Ottawa District Hockey Association (ODHA)

Name change effective July 1, 2013 to HOCKEY EASTERN ONTARIO (www.hockeyeasternontario.ca/)

The ODHA is the governing body of amateur hockey in the Ottawa area (East of and including the Counties of Leeds, Lanark and Renfrew).  Some of their responsibilities include the management of the officiating program, development programs (including Speak Out - for bench staff), as well as other administrative responsibilities.  The ODHA governs the Junior leagues in their area (Central Junior A Hockey League (CJHL), the Eastern Ontario Junior B Hockey League, and The Eastern Ontario Junior C Hockey League).  Also reporting to the ODHA is the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA).  The ODHA and the ODMHA share office facilities in Ottawa.  The ODHA has a full time administrative staff. For more information about the ODHA check their website at  www.odha.com.

Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA)

In the same area that the ODHA operates, the ODMHA governs what is specific to Minor hockey.  Many of the regulations by which we play (and administer hockey) are decided here (such as the affiliation and transfer policies).  The ODMHA directly governs the Competitive Leagues (AAA, AA, A and B) in which some of our Association teams play.  The ODMHA is divided into Districts.  The Board of Directors of the ODMHA (Minor Council) meet monthly.  This Board is made up of executive members and the District Chairman from each district.  More about the ODMHA at www.odmha.on.ca.

District 4 (ODMHA)

The District we are part of is District 4 (Rideau-Carleton).  Our District Council meets monthly, and is composed of a district executive and the President of each of the Associations and Clubs within the District. There are 7 Associations and 4 Clubs within this district.  Most interpretation and enforcement of ODHA/ODMHA regulations takes place at District 4. The District 4 website is www.district4.ca.

Perth Lanark Minor Hockey Association (PLMHA)

This brings us to Perth Lanark Minor Hockey.  We operate under the rules and regulations of Hockey Canada, ODHA, ODMHA, and District 4 and the leagues we place our team in.  Our house teams play in the Lanark Carleton Minor Hockey League (LCMHL) and our Competitive B teams in the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League (UCMHL).  Two other higher level competitive programs are available to our more skilled players.  We have several players with the Ottawa Valley Titans & some of our players will play with the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven.  Our Initiation players learn how to skate and develop their skills as they play in-house.  We offer teams at each level (Initiation to Juvenile).

More about the Ottawa Valley Titans

The Ottawa Valley Titans operate teams that participate in the AAA and AA leagues.  OVT encompasses players from Districts 4 and 5 (Upper Ottawa Valley).  Each season players from the associations in these 2 districts tryout for the Titan teams.  The Titans website:  www.ovtmha.on.ca.

More about the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven

The Silver Seven club was formed in 2007.  It offers an equal opportunity for all players within District 4 to play at the AA and A league levels.  In previous years not all associations could offer their players competitive A hockey due to their size.  Check out their website: www.silversevenhockey.com.

More about the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League (UCMHL)

The associations in District 4 place their competitive B teams in the ODMHL B League and the UCMHL.  Perth Lanark teams play in the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League for competitive B.  This league has teams from District 1 (Upper St. Lawrence) and District 2 (Lower St. Lawrence). More information about the UCMHL can be found on their website:  www.ucmhl.ca.

More about the Lanark Carleton Minor Hockey League (LCMHL)

The LCMHL is a house (recreational) league for the associations within District 4.  Some of the larger associations in the district also operate in-house leagues for some of their teams.  The Lanark Carleton league has tiered divisions from Novice to Midget and one division of Juvenile teams.  More information about the LCMHL can be found on their website:  www.lcmhl.ca.
